CASE STUDY

Hospital Standby

Hospitals rely on a continuous supply of electricity to ensure the safety and comfort of patients. Engaged by our partners Shaw Building Group and Shepherd Electrical as part of their Canberra Hospital Main Switchboard and Generator Replacement project, Genplus Hire delivered a long term hire solution for this ultra-critical application.

Hospital Standby 1

Temporary Standby Power

This four-year job involved the replacement of the hospital’s existing Main Switchboards and Backup Diesel Generators.

The peak stages of the project saw Genplus supply over 9,000kVA of temporary standby generation capacity to critical buildings including the Emergency Department, Operating Theatres and the Intensive Care Unit.
Hospital Standby 2
The Genplus fleet of containerised diesel generators – with their compact 20ft ISO container footprint our Atlas Copco QAC1000, QAC1250 and QAC1450 units allowed for optimal use of the limit space available.
Hospital Standby 3
Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and industry best practise, Genplus completed weekly inspections and monthly load testing on all generators whilst on hire.
Hospital Standby Running 1

Running Supply

One phase of the project required the replacement of the existing High Voltage transformers - this necessitated the staged shutdown of mains power supply.

To ensure business-as-usual operation of the hospital additional generators were deployed to provide primary power whilst these shutdowns took place.

With multiple 1,250kVA generators operating in synchronised load sharing mode Genplus’ solution delivered inherent redundancy should any single generator develop a fault.

Also delivered as part of our package were 24/7 fuel deliveries and on-call technicians
